Assistant Professor, Environmental Chemistry and Global Change About the Position: The Department of Environmental Sciences within Huxley College of the Environment at Western Washington University invites applications from candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position focusing on applied environmental chemistry and global change. The position is at the Assistant Professor rank and begins in September 2018. We seek an individual with teaching and research interests in understanding the behavior of chemicals in the environment, assessing chemical impacts, and/or reducing, preventing, and managing pollutants.

We seek candidates who are committed to a multidisciplinary approach to scholarship and teaching. Criteria for promotion and tenure are described in the Department of Environmental Sciences and the Huxley College Unit Evaluation Plans, which are available online.

Required Qualifications:

·PhD (by time of application) in environmental chemistry or related field

·Demonstrated dedication to effective teaching and high-impact learning practices

·Evidence of the ability to develop and sustain a research program

·Demonstrated scholarship in environmental chemistry that can incorporate considerations of global change

·Demonstrated ability and commitment to cultivating learning environments that are equitable and inclusive of students with diverse social identities and backgrounds

·Excellent communication skills

3. Visiting Assistant Research Scientist, Mesoscale Climatologist

The Illinois State Water Survey of the Prairie Research Institute at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and has been a leader in the study of water resources for more than a century. Our research and service programs provide citizens, industries, and government agencies at all levels with timely, science-based information and analyses necessary to manage our water resources wisely for economic development and a sustainable environment.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

? Identify relevant research needs and project opportunities in mesoscale meteorology and climate science.

4. Graduate Assistantship in Mountain Fire/Forest Ecohydrology

A graduate assistantship is available beginning Fall 2018 in MOUNTAIN FIRE/FOREST ECOHYDROLOGY at Washington State University in Vancouver, for a student interested in a PhD (already with MS) or an MS-PhD dual degree. Exceptional candidates wishing MS only will also be considered.

The core of this research is physical/soil hydrology. The research will address, broadly, plant-water relations and ecohydrologic recovery following forest fire, including aspects of soil science, plant water use, and hillslope/catchment hydrology. Snow, climate, soil hydrology and other related studies are also possible. The qualified candidate is expected to develop their physical hydrology thesis/dissertation research topic based on their own interests within in this general area, in cooperation with supervisor Dr. Kevan Moffett. Required qualifications include: strong physical science and mathematics or engineering background, familiarity with physical hydrology, strong writing and communication skills, research experienced. Desired (but not required) qualifications include: numerical modeling experience, programming experience, GIS skills, independent field research experience, some exposure to plant biology and/or aquatic biogeochemistry and/or soil physics and/or remote sensing analysis.

5. Graduate Assistantship in Stormwater and Green Infrastructure Research

We are seeking a motivated student to pursue a Ph.D. (although exceptional M.S. applicants will also be considered) at Washington State University, Vancouver, as part of a university-funded effort to support research on urban stormwater and green infrastructure (https://provost.wsu.edu/grand-challenge-projects/). RA funding is available for this position. The successful applicant will be expected to take on a research project focused on improving understanding of urban stormwater and green infrastructure systems. Possibilities for research foci include: the hydrology and/or biogeochemistry of urban runoff, linking urban stormwater dynamics to climate change, and understanding landscape scale potential for green infrastructure to improve water quality, among others. The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a Tier-2 Canada Research Chair tenure-track position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will have research strength in one or more areas closely aligned with the goals of quantifying and reducing greenhouse gas and other emissions from the energy sector. The target start date is July 1, 2018. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
