1. Science and Applications Branch Chief

The EROS mission is to contribute to the understanding of a changing Earth.  EROS is a USGS science center, a key NASA Earth observations partner, and the operational home and steward for the Landsat program. The EROS Science and Applications program uses Landsat and other remotely sensed data to provide authoritative land change science information and knowledge that aids understanding how changes in land use, cover, and condition affect people and natural systems. As part of the USGS Climate and Land Use Change Mission, the EROS science program focuses on national to global land change issues.  The specific goals of the EROS science and applications program include:

1. Improve land change monitoring through remote sensing research.

2. Understand the temporal and geographic dimensions of land change.

3. Improve the understanding of the connections between climate and land change and their combined impacts on human and natural systems.

2. Assistant Professor, Civil and Environmental Engineering

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Lehigh University (http://www.lehigh.edu/~incee/) invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in the area of sustainable and resilient water-energy-environmental systems. This bridges two areas of concentration in our department – civil infrastructure and the water environment. The candidate’s research should have a water focus and include interdisciplinary aspects of the water-environment-energy nexus. Research approaches may include modeling, laboratory experiments, and fieldwork.

The position will be filled at the rank of assistant professor with an anticipated start of Fall 2017. The successful candidate must (1) earn a doctorate in civil or environmental engineering or a closely related field, (2) have excellent potential in research and scholarship, and (3) an ability to teach courses in support of the civil and environmental engineering programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels, including some in the area of water resources. The successful candidate is expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, supervise M.S. and Ph.D. students, and contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through their research, teaching, and/or service.

6. Postdoctoral Researchers

Job Description

Two postdoctoral researchers are sought to participate in research projects focused on mapping and monitoring ecosystem productivity and change, primarily in North America, incorporating climate, land use and disturbance dynamics. The successful candidates will work closely with the principle investigator and collaborators, incorporating satellite observations in ecosystem models to analyze the influence of environmental change on forest dynamics.

The successful candidate will be responsible for contributing to NAU’s satellite remote sensing activities.

The position will involve:

? Processing multi-sensor imagery, primarily satellite-based but possibly airborne remote sensing, to derive geospatial products characterizing ecosystem properties (e.g. canopy structure, biomass, disturbance severity, regrowth dynamics).

? Advancing analyses of ecosystem disturbance and the drivers of forest composition and change through time.

? Exploration of state-of-the-art techniques to derive geophysical properties in permafrost environments, including arctic and boreal ecosystems.

Minimum Qualifications PhD in Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, Computer Science and/or a related discipline conferred by start date.
