1. Research Scientist in Isotope Biogeochemistry (up to 6 years)

The University of Basel invites applications for a Research Scientist position (non-tenure track) in the Aquatic and Stable Isotope Biogeochemistry working group of the Department of Environmental Sciences (Prof. Dr. M. Lehmann). We are seeking highly motivated candidates, preferably with at least two years of post-doctoral experience in stable isotope geochemistry and biogeochemical cycling of elementsin aquatic systems (marine and freshwater).

Potential candidates with expertise in combining isotopic (natural abundance, isotope enrichment, and/or compound-specific/biomarker) geochemical, and molecular approaches to study element cycles in pelagic and/or benthic environments on different spatial/temporal scales, and with interest to integrate experimental and field research are particularly encouraged to apply. A background in nitrogen isotope biogeochemistry (e.g., NOx, N2O) is not a requirement, but will be an asset. The successful candidate is expected to initiate his/her own research projects, as well as to join ongoing and planned multidisciplinary projects in the broader fields of stable isotope biogeochemistry. He/she is also expected to contribute to the teaching activities at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

What is GeoHealth?

GeoHealth is a rapidly emerging transdisciplinary field that supports the intersection of Earth and environmental sciences with human, agricultural, and environmental health. The collaborative efforts between geoscientists, ecologists, and environmental and health professionals can influence global change in agricultural and ecological health and services, inform public health campaigns, and have direct benefits to human health and the environment. The discipline is expected to grow as geoscience research in environmental factors becomes increasingly important to understanding global and local issues related to health and the environment.

What are the responsibilities of a Program Manager, GeoHealth?

? Leads the development of the GeoHealth network, including identifying and cultivating key partners.

? Develops a progressive plan for engaging members of the network.

? Identifies opportunities for engagement and develops, executes/leads a range of GeoHealth activities and campaigns designed to build understanding of and support for the Earth and space sciences.

? Works to develop an engaged community around GeoHealth within and beyond AGU.

? Expands recognition of the topic in current AGU meetings.

? Develops and expands partnerships, contacts, and relations with key thought-leaders, allied organizations, and individuals across this topic.

? Identifies areas of improvement within the research structure of GeoHealth programs.

? Participates fully in professional organizations and activities related to their field.
